SEVERAL Newport residents have been in court across England and Wales this week.

Offences included drink driving, speeding and refusing to identify drivers involved in other offences.

Here’s a look at the punishments dished out by the Magistrates’ Courts.

JOSEPH JASON BEECH, 27, of Gaskell Street in Newport, was caught driving a Range Rover along the M56 while more than twice the drink driving limit.

Beech had been driving on the M56 near Chester on August 27, and returned an alcohol level of 83 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath when officers breathalysed him.

The legal limit is 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath.

He pleaded guilty and on Friday October 1 at Chester Magistrates' Court, was fined £1,000, ordered to pay a £100 surcharge, and £85 in costs.

Beech was disqualified from driving for two years. This would be reduced by 26 weeks if he completes a prescribed course by February 1, 2023.

SADIKUR RAHMAN, 24, of Dolphin Street in Newport has been fined after refusing to give information about a vehicle involved in an alleged offence.

On April 1, Rahman was questioned by South Wales Police in Treforest about the identification of the driver of a Vauxhall alleged to be involved in an offence.

A charge of failing to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle when required was proven using the Single Justice Procedure at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, September 29.

Rahman was fined £660, and ordered to pay £110 in costs and a £66 surcharge.

They were also disqualified from driving for six months due to repeat offending.

ALAN JEFFREY JAMES PEARSON, 61, of Corporation Road in Newport, was ordered to shell out more than £1,600 after refusing to identify the driver of a Nissan Juke involved in two separate offences.

Pearson faced two charges of failing to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle when required, relating to offences on April 9 and May 10.

At Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Thursday, September 30, the April 9 offence was proven using the Single Justice Procedure.

He was fined £660, ordered to pay a surcharge of £66 and £90 in costs.

His licence was endorsed with six penalty points, and he was disqualified from holding a driving licence for two years due to repeat offending.

The offence on May 10 was proven by the Single Justice Procedure on Friday, October 1 at Cardiff Magistrates' Court.

For this offence, he was fined £660, ordered to pay a surcharge of £66 and £90 in costs.

He was also handed six penalty points.

In total, Pearson was ordered to pay £1,632.

MARIUSZ MATEUSZ KULIK, 31, of Anson Green in Newport was caught speeding on the M4.

Kulik was caught by a manned speed camera driving an Audi A4 at more than 70mph at Tormarton in Gloucestershire on March 14.

Kulik pleaded guilty, and at South East Wiltshire Magistrates' Court on Monday, October 4, was fined £334, ordered to pay £110 costs and a surcharge of £34.

They were also disqualified from driving for 21 days.

COLIN MANSUETO, 54, of Medlock Close in Bettws, has been ordered to pay almost £350 after being caught driving five miles per hour over the speed limit in Cardiff.

On April 6, Mansueto was caught driving on Pentwyn Road – where a 30mph limit is in place – at 36mph.

The offence was proved at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Thursday, September 30 using the Single Justice Procedure, and Mansueto was fined £220.

He must also pay £90 in costs and a £34 surcharge.

Three points were also added to his licence.

KELLY CADMAN, 45, of Brynglas Drive in Newport, was also fined for speeding on Pentwyn Road in Cardiff.

Cadman was caught on April 4 driving a Nissan Juke at 35mph in the 30mph zone.

The offence was proved at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Thursday, September 30 using the Single Justice Procedure.

She was fined £220, ordered to pay £90 in costs and a £34 surcharge.

She also had three points added to her licence.

MARTIN RORY MOSTERT, 59, of Lancers Way in Duffryn, Newport, was caught driving a van 10mph over the speed limit.

On April 16, Mostert was caught by a manned speed camera on the A40 near the junction to Llanllwch in Carmarthenshire driving at 60mph in a Ford Transit van.

He pleaded guilty, and at Llanelli Magistrates' Court on Thursday, September 30 was fined £66 and ordered to pay a £34 surcharge.

Three points were added to his driving licence, and no separate order was made for costs.

CARWYN ATYEO, 34, of Coolgreany Crescent in Newport was caught speeding in a Ford Transit van.

Atyeo was caught driving at 35mph on Greenway Road, near the junction with Hendre Road, in Rumney on April 1. This is a 30mph zone.

The offence was proven using the Single Justice Procedure, and Atyeo was fined £220 at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Monday, October 4.

He must also pay £90 in costs and a £34 surcharge, and has had three points added to his licence.

ANDREW DAVID JAMES GODFREY, 56, of West Street in Newport was caught speeding in Cardiff.

Godfrey was caught by a speed camera on North Road driving a Honda Civic at 36mph in a 30mph zone.

He pleaded guilty, and was fined £100 at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Thursday, September 30.

Godfrey was ordered to pay £90 in costs and a £34 surcharge.

His driving licence was endorsed with three points.

DAVID KILBY, 35, of Violet Walk in Rogerstone, Newport, was fined for speeding in Cardiff.

On April 9, Kilby was caught by an automatic speed camera driving a Vauxhall Vectra at 35mph on Newport Road in Cardiff – a 30mph zone.

He pleaded guilty, and at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Friday, October 1, was fined £100.

Kilby must also pay £90 in costs and a £34 surcharge.

Three points were also added to his driving licence.
