DRIVERS from across Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent have had their cases heard in courts across Wales this week. 

Offences included driving without due care and attention, speeding, and refusing to identify the driver of a vehicle involved in an offence.

Here is a round-up of cases heard.

HAYLEY POWELL, 49, of Frost Road in Beaufort, Ebbw Vale, has been fined for driving carelessly outside a Cardiff hospital.

Powell was caught driving without due care and attention on the roundabout at University Hospital of Wales on July 24.

She pleaded guilty, and at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Thursday, September 30, was fined £333.

Powell was also ordered to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and a surcharge of £34.

She also had five points added to her licence.

SHARON SMITH, 55, of Brynawelon in Nantyglo, Ebbw Vale, was clocked going 15mph over the speed limit on a main road in Carmarthenshire.

Smith was caught driving a Nissan Qashqai at 65mph by a manned speed camera on the A40 near the junction for Llanllwch on April 16.

She pleaded guilty, and, at Llanelli Magistrates' Court on Thursday, September 30, was fined £40.

Smith must also pay £90 in costs and pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £34

She also had three points added to her licence.

KAY SMITH, 58, of Manor Road in Abersychan, Pontypool, was caught speeding on the A48 at Carmarthen.

On April 18, Smith was caught driving a Mitsubishi Outlander at 79mph on the A48 near Pensarn in Carmarthen – a 70mph zone – by a manned speed camera.

Smith pleaded guilty, and was fined £96 at Llanelli Magistrates' Court on Friday, October 1.

They were ordered to pay £90 in costs, a £34 surcharge, and three points were put on their licence.

JOSEPH JOHNSON, 51, of St Cadocs Road in Trevethin, Pontypool, has been ordered to pay more than £800 after failing to give information about a vehicle involved in an alleged offence.

On May 7, Johnson was questioned in Treforest about a Ford caught by an automatic speed camera on Greenway Road, alleged to have been driving at 35mph in a 30mph zone.

A charge of failing to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle when required was proved using the Single Justice Procedure, and Johnson was fined £660 at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Thursday, September 30.

He must also pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £66, and pay £90 in costs.

He was also handed six points on his licence.
