WALES’ autumn Tests will only be shown live on Amazon Prime Video after they decided to provide their own Welsh-language commentary rather than allowing games to be on S4C.

Highlights of Wayne Pivac’s men going up against New Zealand, South Africa, Fiji and Australia in Cardiff will be available on S4C but the live coverage will only be on the subscription channel.

Prime, who also have rights to England, Scotland, France and Italy’s Tests, previously allowed Wales’ Autumn Nations Cup to be shown on S4C but there has been a change of policy.

Former Wales internationals Shane Williams, Nicky Robinson, Gwyn Jones and Sioned Harries plus ex-Test referee Nigel Owens will be part of the Amazon team with Owain Gwynedd hosting and commentary from Gareth Charles.

“We are always looking to offer more choice to Prime members in how they are able to watch live sport on Prime Video and it was important for us to deliver a Welsh-language feed for the Autumn Nations Series,” said Alex Green, managing director of Prime Video Sport Europe.

“This additional viewing experience will bring our world-class production to Welsh language households across the UK, whether they are watching live, catching up on-demand or viewing the highlights on S4C.”

S4C will show up to 40 minutes of match highlights from the four Tests.

“As the only free-to-air broadcaster with extended same day highlights of every Wales game in the Autumn Nations Series, we’ll be on the air an hour after the final whistle of the matches with all the action and reaction,” said S4C sports commissioner Sue Butler.
