A MAN is to stand trial after he pleaded not guilty to an allegation he deliberately started a fire.

Matthew Benjamin, 39, of Earlswood Road, Earlswood, Shirenewton, Monmouthshire, denied committing arson at a shed in Parklands Close, Mathern, near Chepstow, on September 10.

The defendant appeared at Newport Crown Court via video link from Swansea Prison.

Judge Jeremy Jenkins set a trial date of March 1, 2022.

Benjamin was remanded in custody.

He was defended by Karl Williams and the prosecution was represented by Christopher Evans.
