Road closures will hit much of the M4 in Wales this weekend, as well as the M48.

Overnight closures will impact various parts of the motorway around Newport, Cardiff and Swansea.

These are the sections of the M4 and M48 that will be disrupted by road closures this weekend.

M4 and M48 weekend road closures

  • M4, junction 26: The entry and exit slip roads will be closed in both directions at junction 26 for Malpas Friday night. The closures will allow maintenance work to take place and will be in place from 8pm this evening until 6am Saturday morning.
  • M4 eastbound, junction 33-32: The M4 eastbound will be closed between Capel Llanilltern at junction 33 and Coryton at junction 32 Friday night. Maintenance work will close the carriageway from 8pm until 6am Saturday morning.
  • M4 eastbound, junction 38-37: Maintenance work will close the motorway between junction 38 for Margam and junction 37 for Pyle this weekend. Overnight closures will be in place each evening between 8pm and 6am. They will end on Sunday morning.
  • M48 westbound, junction 1-2: Anyone returning from England this weekend in South Wales will need to use the Second Severn Crossing. The M48 will be shut between junction 1 for Aust and junction 2 for Newhouse for much of the weekend. Maintenance work will close the original Severn Bridge from 6pm on Friday until 6pm on Sunday.
  • M4 westbound, junction 48: The M4 will be closed westbound at junction 48 for Hendy this weekend. An overnight closure will be in place Saturday night to allow maintenance work to take place on the stretch of carriageway. The closure will begin at 7pm on Saturday and run until 6am on Sunday.
  • M4 westbound, junction 37-38: Roadworks around junction 37 for Pyle and junction 38 for Margam will move to the westbound carriageway on Sunday night. Maintenance work will shut the motorway between the two junctions overnight next week. The first closure will begin at 8pm on Sunday and run until 6am on Monday. Overnight closures will continue until Friday morning.
