THE ADMIRAL City of Newport Half Marathon will return to the streets for 2022.
St David’s Hospice Care is all set to launch the 2022 Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon and welcome runners back to the city centre, after Covid restrictions meant the 2021 half marathon was forced to go virtual
St David’s Hospice Care event manager, Christine Vorres, said: “The 2021 Virtual event was a successful fundraiser for the charity, but it’s good to be staging a ‘real’ event once again.
“Covid has meant that we have had to make a few changes, but we are excited to be back.”
Insurance agency, Admiral, will once again be supporting the half marathon and will have a group of colleagues running at the 2022 event.
Head of people services at Admiral, Rhian Langham, said: “We’re so happy to be supporting The Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon for the ninth consecutive year.
“It’s a fantastic event for the city of Newport, the participants, and St David’s Hospice Care – a very worthy cause.
“After a challenging couple of years, it’s fantastic to see events happening in our local communities again, good luck to all taking part.”
The Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon will take place on March 6, 2022.
The route follows roads through the city centre before heading out to Caerleon where it picks up the cycle paths. On the return to the centre, runners follow the paths along the river Usk, finishing near the university campus building.
Carrie Peach, a staff member at Admiral, took part in this year’s virtual event and said: “Giving is not just about making a donation; it's about making a difference.
“Admiral supporting this charity inspires me to do more for people that aren't as fortunate as myself.”

St David’s Hospice Care chief executive Emma Saysell added: “We were overwhelmed by the positive support of runners in the 2021 Virtual Half Marathon but are so pleased welcoming back all the runners in person this year.
“I look forward to seeing the streets of Newport filled with all the keen athletes.
“Our gratitude also goes out to Admiral for once again supporting The Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon; Admiral really do help us to make the event a success and we couldn’t do it without them.
“Good luck to the Admiral team of runners and every single person taking part.”
