A NEWPORT café, which opened in 2019, has closed its doors for the last time, following 18 months of Covid hardships.

Snack Shack, on Brynglas Road in Newport, was a family run business which opened in 2019 offering breakfast, lunch, sweet treats, along with hot and cold drinks.

The Newport business - which also has a Cardiff premises - proved popular on TripAdvisor, with reviewers described the food as “fresh and well presented”, “delicious”, and “very tasty” and staff praised for being “friendly and welcoming”.

Following 18 months of difficulties for many businesses, due to the Covid pandemic, Snack Shack in Newport closed today, October 21.

A post, shared on their social media page, states: “Two years after we set out on this journey, we are sad to announce that Snack Shack Newport has closed its doors for the last time.

“We would like to thank all our staff for their hard work and all our friends and customers for all their support - you've been amazing.

“Anyone who's involved in the food business will know how hard trading conditions have been over the last 18 months, with the last six months being near on impossible due to rising costs and economic uncertainty.

“As a small independent business in a highly competitive market we cannot pass our rising costs on to our customers, so we've made the very difficult decision to close the business.

“Thank you again to everyone who has helped and supported us since 2019, we couldn't have done it without you.”

But there is a glimmer of hope for fans of Snack Shack - an image, shared along with their announcement reads: “Thank you & goodbye (for now)”.

Snack Shack Cardiff, located on Rhydypenau roundabout, remains open.

It offers vegan and vegetarian options, with all their package recylable, along with a range of locally produced CBD products.
