BUILDERS’ merchants Robert Price has donated a collection of food and toiletries to Abergavenny foodbank, which has seen more demand than ever in the last 18 months.
Providing an invaluable community service to those in need, the Covid-19 pandemic has meant that local foodbanks have become a necessity for thousands of people.
Even now as many people are back in employment, furlough has come to an end, energy prices are rising and government cutbacks to Universal Credit mean that it could continue to be a busy time ahead for such a vital support service.
The foodbank relies largely on individuals and organisations for donations. South Wales builders’ merchants, Robert Price, were delighted to make their contribution to such an important charity.
“The whole team were honoured to do what they could for our local foodbank”, said Janet Jefferies, Branch Manager at Robert Price Abergavenny, who organised the collection.
“Offering our support and helping those in need of this lifeline seemed like the least we could do to assist.
“I hope we can make this a regular contribution, and I’d like to give a big thank you to everyone in the team for their donations.”
Kate Hooten, who leads the Abergavenny Foodbank, was overjoyed with the donation.
She said: “We manage all of the food donations by weight, and the Robert Price collection weighed in at an amazing 90.2kg!
“With further government cuts, it’s looking like we have a busy time ahead. So, these donations will enable us to restock in readiness for the coming months.
“Thank you so much to all the staff at Robert Price for their generosity, it is hugely appreciated!”
