CARDIFF City have announced that Mick McCarthy and assistant manager Terry Connor have left the club with immediate effect.

The departures came straight after Cardiff lost 2-0 to Middlesborough at home.

The loss was the eighth straigh defeat for the Bluebirds and they have not scored a goal since September 25.

Steve Morison and Tom Ramasut will take over the first team as the club search for a new manager.

McCarthy only joined Cardiff in January after Neil Harris left the club and signed a two year contract in March.

However, just 11 points in 14 games sees Cardiff languishing in 21st place in the Championship with the threat of relegation looming unless the team discovers some form.

In a club statement, Cardiff said: "Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that first team manager Mick McCarthy and assistant manager Terry Connor have left the club by mutual agreement and with immediate effect.

"We would like to thank Mick and Terry for their efforts during their time with the Bluebirds and wish them all the best for the future.

"Steve Morison and Tom Ramasut will oversee first-team duties at this time, as the board of directors begin the process of appointing a permanent replacement."

It is too early to say who is likely to replace McCarthy, but ex-Newport County boss Michael Flynn has been touted as a potential replacement.

It would be a big step up for Flynn to go from a League Two club to a Championship side, but his work with County and the several cup runs he presided over may persuade Cardiff to take a chance on him.
