THOUSANDS of runners turned out in Newport on Sunday for the city's 2021 marathon and 10k races.

It was a record-breaking day in Newport, with the race winners in the men's and women's marathon and 10k events all setting new course records.

“We’ve had to be patient over the last 18 months, but the third edition of the event was certainly worth the wait," said Matt Newman, chief executive of race organisers Run 4 Wales, after Sunday's event.

“It has been a fantastic day for distance running in Wales and for the city of Newport, who once again came out in their droves to support the runners who finally got the chance to shine on the big stage.
