AS WORLD leaders meet in Glasgow to discuss the pressing issue of climate change, a teenager from Newport has been named as one of the UK's leading young voices on the issue.

Poppy Stowell-Evans, 16, is the chair of the Youth Climate Ambassadors for Wales.

She focuses on amplifying young people's voices in the fight against climate change.

Miss Stowell-Evans was recognised by energy company ScottishPower who compiled the Green Power List ahead of the United Nations COP26 Climate Change Conference.

The list recognises innovators and leaders in business pioneering positive change through green initiatives.

It was compiled after ScottishPower asked communities to submit the contributions of people in their area.

At only 16 years of age, Miss Stowell-Evans has contributed enough to be considered as a real heavyweight in the fight against climate change.

ScottishPower chief executive Keith Anderson said: "Congratulations to all of the outstanding green champions being recognised in our COP26 Green Power List.

"They have made an outstanding effort fighting climate change, despite being faced with challenges over the past year as a result of the ongoing pandemic.

"They have continued to tackle the climate crisis and their selfless actions deserve to be celebrated.

"We are proud to honour them and provide them with a platform to continue their invaluable work.

"The COP26 Green Power list reflects those who are truly making a difference to the climate crisis and I hope their stories inspires others to take action as we all need to play our part in keeping the 1.5 threshold alive."
