NEWPORT City Council has launched a consultation on plans to combat climate change in the area.

The plan sets out the council's plan to work towards becoming carbon neutral by 2030.

The council has published a draft version of the plan, and residents, businesses and stakeholders can now have their say on our proposals.

Feedback will be considered before the plan is finalised in early 2022.

The plan is centred around six key delivery themes:

  • Organisational culture and leadership;
  • Buildings;
  • Land;
  • Transport and mobility;
  • Goods and services;
  • Thc council's wider role.

The consultation will detail the council's priority actions under each theme and ask for feedback from the public.

Cllr Jane Mudd, leader of the council, said: “Climate change is one of the defining global challenges of our generation. There is an urgent need for us all to come together to limit global temperature rises and build a sustainable world for future generations.

“As a council, we have already made a good start, reducing our direct and energy generating emissions by 29 per cent over the last three years.

“We know that we have much more work to do though, and I’m pleased to be able to present this draft plan to our residents.

“We are committed to reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2030, and we want your help in ensuring we are taking the right actions to achieve this goal.”
