BARRY has the highest driving test pass rate in Wales.

A study, by A-Plan Insurance, examined the pass rate percentage of each major driving test centres in Wales – since April 2020 – to determine the one with the highest pass rate. 

Barry has the highest percentage of pass rates out of all test centres in Wales with an average pass rate of 64.78 per cent between April 2020 and June 2021. Over this time period, 1,096 practical driving tests were conducted, with 710 passed.

Placing second is Llantrisant, in Rhondda Cynon Taf, coming in just below Barry with a pass rate of 64 per cent. This centre carried out nearly 1,000 more tests than Barry in this time frame – 1,354 people passed their tests with 2,089 taking their practical in this time frame.

Brecon tied with Llantrisant, with a success rate of 64 per cent.

The Welsh capital, Cardiff, missed out on the top 10 high pass rates in Wales and came in 12th place in this data. Cardiff’s pass rate for this time frame was 57.42 per cent.

Swansea places quite low down on the list of test centres in Wales, with an average pass rate of 54 per cent. But the lowest pass rate in Wales, based on this data, belongs to Wrexham, where 48 per cent of the tests taken since April 2020 have been passed.

In total between April 2020 and June 2021, the 19 Welsh test centres included in the analysis conducted 48,472 tests, of which 27,549 were passed – a success rate of 56.83 per cent.                                                

A spokesman for A-Plan Insurance, which used data from the UK Government to carry out this research, said: “With taking a driving test being a crucial step in the lives of many people, it’s interesting to see how varied your results can be depending on where you live.”

The research was carried out by A-Plan Insurance, which has more than 100 high street branches nationwide. The company, established in the 1960s, provides a personalised service to more than 600,000 clients.
