A TEENAGER has been arrested after a car collided with two homes in Newport.

Police were called to Loftus Avenue at around 2.45am on Wednesday morning after reports of a collision.

There, officers, paramedics and a crew from the fire service found a car had crashed into two homes.

A spokesperson for Gwent Police said two men reportedly left the scene following the collision.

Officers from Gwent Police's operations and support unit said the driver of the car was tracked down with help from police dog Kona, part of a specialist unit.

The driver, an 18-year-old man from Newport, was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. He remains in police custody at this time.

Three women, all aged 18, were rear seat passengers inside the car at the time of the collision and later attended hospital as a precaution.

The car was recovered and a structural assessment of the properties has been arranged after damage was caused to two homes.

Officers from the operations and support unit said the damage to property was "extensive".

Police are investigating the crash and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

This could include CCTV or dashcam footage.
