TWO sisters slammed a gang of yobs whose constant abuse drove their elderly father from his Blackwood home.

Lynys Saunders and Alma Richards said the parents of the teenagers terrorising elderly residents in Chartist Way and Apollo Way should be punished for their children's behaviour.

They spoke out after we reported how their dad Trevor Carey quit his home in Chartist Way after a catalogue of incidents over a four-year period.

The 77-year-old great-grandfather had his fence destroyed, his car attacked, his garden ripped up and his phone line cut by the yobs.

He now lives in sheltered accommodation in the Blackwood area.

Mr Carey's daughters Lynys Saunders, 46, of Park Hill, and Alma Richards, 48, of Bryn Rhedin, said they are "disgusted" at the situation.

Mrs Saunders said: "It's absolutely shocking, the parents have no control. They run wild on the estate and act as if they own the place."

Mrs Richards added: "I think the parents should be held responsible, to pay for the damage their children have caused."

The pair say they have both been verbally abused and threatened by youths on the estate, and called for more policing.

A spokeswoman for Blackwood police said the number of calls about anti-social behaviour and incidents of criminal damage have fallen since officers increased patrols on the estate in response to Mr Carey leaving.

  • A Partnership and Communities Together (PACT) meeting is being held at 7pm on March 17 at Plas Mawr Community Centre, Bryn Road, Blackwood for residents to raise concerns over crime and anti-social behaviour.
