Gourmet Coffee that tickles your tastebuds - and your conscience!
A coffee evening with a difference is being held at The British Legion Club, Newmarket Street on Monday March 3, at 7.30pm. It is part of the Fairtrade Fortnight in Usk, and focuses on Fairtrade coffees, particularly those from Yirgacheffe in Ethiopia. Despite producing one of the best coffees in the world, Yirgacheffe's people are amongst the poorest in the world, where the average income is only 50p a day, and the average life expectancy just 43 years.
Links are now being built between Bryn-Y-Cwm, which covers Abergavenny and surrounding villages, and Yirgacheffe, and more of this will be explained at the evening, as well as giving everyone a chance to sample the gourmet coffee. Present at the event will be Jo Keen, who has recently visited this poor area of Ethiopia, as well as members of Usk Fairtrade Forum and members of Usk Conservation and Environment Group.
Usk Fairtrade Forum is part of the growing band of towns throughout Monmouthshire who are committed to promoting Fairtrade products and initiatives to help disadvantaged farmers and workers in developed countries help themselves out of poverty, through trade.
