FORMER Monmouth Comprehensive School pupil Chris Davies has successfully auditioned for the Welsh National Opera.

Chris, pictured below, will be performing in their specially commissioned opera, The Calling of Maisy Day, written by award-winning composer Brian Irvine at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff in July.

After completing his A-Levels last year - obtaining an A in drama and theatre studies, a B in English and a B in history - Chris went on to Hereford College of Art, to take a foundation course in order to gain a diploma in professional performance, and he hopes to progress to drama school later on this year.

He is currently rehearsing a production called Murdering Marlowe, by Charles Marowitz, and directed by Helen Wingrave, which will go on tour from February 27 to April 15 at venues across the South West and Wales.

Local people may remember him for his roles as Tevye in Monmouth Comprehensive School's production of Fiddler on the Roof, and Nicely Nicely Johnson in Guys & Dolls.
