The 45th Annual Concert of the celebrated Caldicot Male Voice Choir coincided with St David's Day and was held in the Caldicot Leisure Centre, on Saturday March 1 and was performed to a full house.

With 68 members of the choir on stage, and under the direction of Musical Director, Sian Hatton, very ably assisted by Shirley Ann James, with expert support by accompanists Stephen Berry and John Nicholson, the choir got off to a rousing start with the Welsh hymn Rachie arranged by Alwyn Humphries.

Throughout the concert the conducting was shared by the musical director and her assistant, with the two accompanists sharing the piano.

The programme for the choir included a wide range of pieces, some Welsh tunes, with pieces from popular musicals to lighter pieces with some humorous content. Some of the pieces sung included, You Raise Me Up, arranged by Teena Chinn, O Gymru arranged by Haydn James, Tribute to Queen, arranged by Alan Simmons, An American Trilogy, arranged by M Newbury and completing their concert with the beautiful Welsh hymn, Tydi a Roddaist, arranged by Arwel Hughes.

The guest artist for the night was soprano Rhian Mair Lewis, a Soprano with a very beautiful voice, and a graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music. Rhian has performed with Caldicot Male Choir in the past in a charity concert in Hinchinbrooke, Cambridgeshire, and she had the audience captivated with classical numbers, Welsh lullabys and operatic pieces. Rhian has recently joined the Glyndebourne chorus, and we wish her all the best for her future, which has every indication of being very successful.

The concert was compared by Graham Richard, a former chorister with the choir..

The next concert for the choir will be in Romsey Abbey on Saturday April 12, where they will be joined by the Michelmersh Silver Band.
