A MUSIC venue in Newport city centre is rapidly becoming a hotspot for live comedy.

Le Pub, on High Street in Newport, is well known for being one of South Wales’ most respected grassroots music venues – the pub has also recently hosted numerous stand-up comedy shows (with some selling out).

Extra shows had to be added for the recent sell-out success of Live At The Apollo star Ignacio Lopez’s tour show Nine Ig Fails at the venue which also hosted Taskmaster star Mike Wozniak earlier in 2023, with his show Zusa also selling out Le Pub completely.

Following this success Le Pub, in association with Shameless Promotion, has launched a regular pro-comedy night Le Pub is for Laughter, with its first night set to take place on Wednesday, December 20.

Le Pub is for Laughter will play host to some of the UK comedy circuit’s top stars with its December launch night being headlined by British Comedian of The Year finalist Tom Glover.

Wales’ top comedy promotion company Little Wander are also backing Le Pub as the new home of comedy in Newport with their touring showcase of up-and-coming Welsh comedy talent the New Welsh Wave taking to Le Pub’s stage in February 2024 and Mock The Week and Have I Got News For You star Ria Lina later, in May 2024.

Comedy fans will also be able to catch the regular monthly You Will Laugh comedy night where established pro-comics try out new material and newer acts get to try their hand at stand-up for a pay what you want audience as well as a LGBT+ comedy night ‘Queer Comedy Corner’ on January 31, 2024.
