A business body is urging shoppers to support their local high streets and shop small this festive season.

The Federation of Small Businesses is asking people across Wales to commit to spending at least £10 locally with a small business and to share on social media what makes that business special using the hashtag #10PoundPledge #10PuntLeol.

Ben Cottam, head of Wales at the FSB, said: “Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy and we know that more money is recirculated in the local economy when it is spent at a local independent shop, rather than at a national chain store.

“That's why we are asking everyone to get involved with our #10PoundPledge. By spending at least £10 with a local business this festive period and sharing on social media what makes this business special, we can make a real difference.

“Given the impact of severe weather disruptions experienced in recent weeks, it is more important than ever that we think local as we all work through the last of our shopping lists over the days to come."
