A MAN who was rushed to hospital after a crash between a car and a lamppost in Lliswerry, Newport has been arrested.
The collision which involved a car and a lampost took place on Moorland Park in Newport at around 9.05pm on February 20.
The driver, a man in his 40s, was rushed to hospital as a precaution.
He was then arrested on suspicion of several serious offences.
This included aggravated vehicle taking, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of a controlled drug of class A - cocaine.
This also included driving while unfit through drink, and driving a vehicle while unfit through drugs.
The man is currently in police custody as enquiries continue.
A police spokesperson said: "We received a report of road traffic collision on Moorland Park, Newport, at around 9.05pm on Thursday 20 February.
"Officers attended and the collision involved a car and a lamppost.
"The driver, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital as a precaution.
"He was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of a controlled drug of class A – cocaine, driving while unfit through drink, and driving a vehicle while unfit through drugs.
"The man is currently in police custody as our enquiries continue."
