Save the Six Bells group chair invited to 10 Downing Street

The group is a community benefit society trying save the much-loved Six Bells club which has been derelict for several years. 

The owner of the pub in Peterstone, Wentlooge who previously wanted to turn the land into a housing development has since put it on the market. 

The ‘Save the Six Bells’ group want to buy the property through shareholders donations and fundraising.

The invitation for the special trip to 10 Downing Street 

In a social media post, Ruth Jones MP for Newport West and Islwyn said: “The Six Bells project is going places... like No.10 Downing Street. 

“Thank you for representing our community, Amanda.”

“Last night, she had the honour of attending the St David’s Day reception, representing the Save the Six Bells campaign alongside our incredible supporter Ruth Jones for Newport West and Islwyn 

“It was an unforgettable evening, bringing together inspiring people from across Wales who are making a real difference in their communities.  

“One of the biggest highlights? Amanda had the chance to talk about our project with true Welsh icons—Alun Wyn Jones, Ken Owens, and Michael Sheen.

“This was a significant milestone for our campaign. Being recognised at this level proves that the Six Bells project has real credibility.  

“This is about more than just saving a building; it’s about creating a space that will serve our community for generations to come. 

“We still have work to do, but this is proof that people are taking notice. The Six Bells is going places, and we’re not stopping now!” 

What is the latest on the share offer? 

The group launched a community share offer with a target of raising £150,000 which was due to close on February 21.  

So far, the group has raised £40,000 with 64 shareholders and has announced they are extending their share offer. 

The group extended the community share offer until April 19 to ‘give more people the chance to be part of this historic moment’.  

However, in the announcement on February 21, they said extending the option to the buy the Six Bells is still being negotiated.
