Newport is set to benefit from a huge US investment which will help develop one of Europe’s largest data centre campuses in the area.
The funding is part of a £33 billion investment delivered through the UK-US Tech Partnership.
The investment, highlighted during the recent state visit to the UK by US president Donald Trump, is expected to drive job creation, innovation, and long-term economic growth, positioning Wales as a key player in the UK’s digital future.
Vantage Data Centres will be investing £12 billion to develop one of Europe’s largest data centre campuses in Newport, which will create 11,500 jobs.
This builds on the company’s growing footprint in Wales, including an existing campus near Cardiff, plans for a 10-centre complex at the former Ford engine plant in Bridgend, and a newly-approved project at Bro Tathan business park in the Vale of Glamorgan.
UK business and trade secretary Peter Kyle said: "These commitments send a clear signal that Wales is at the forefront of innovation in digital infrastructure.
"Working closely with the US is best for Britain — it boosts growth and delivers jobs across the country.
"It’s clear our Plan for Change is working — and that Wales remains a prime destination for global investment."
Secretary of State for Wales Jo Stevens said: "The UK government has made economic growth our key mission and this huge US investment in Wales delivers fantastic benefits for working people across the country.
"Wales is open for business and this vote of confidence from firms in key sectors like clean energy, advanced manufacturing and defence will boost jobs and growth in our industries of the future."
