Uniqlo and other stores readers would like in South Wales

From Mango and LEGO to Carl's Jr. and Rituals, there have been several big-name brands opening new stores in South Wales in 2025.

September was a major month for store openings in the area.

US burger chain Carl's Jr. opened its second UK restaurant in Swansea, while Rituals and Holland & Barrett opened new stores in the Quadrant Shopping Centre (also in Swansea).

Meanwhile, Mango, Moss, Mr Simms, and LEGO all opened brand-new shops in Cardiff's St David's Dewi Sant Shopping Centre.

Already this month, local shoppers have seen a new Popeyes open in Swansea.

While in Newport, the likes of Mint and Sealed, The Underground, and Home Bargains have all opened new shops in 2025.

New stores coming soon to South Wales

More store openings are scheduled in South Wales over the coming months.

Global beauty retailer Sephora is set to open its first Welsh store at St David's Shopping Centre on Thursday (October 23).

While a host of other big-name brands will also be opening in Cardiff shopping centre before the end of 2025, including:

  • Charles Tyrwhitt
  • Which Wich
  • PURESEOUL
  • Kenji
  • PURESEOUL

Sporting giant JD Sports and Hollywood Bowl’s multi-level family-entertainment complex are already confirmed for Spring 2026 (in St David's).

Aldi recently revealed plans to open a new supermarket in Newport over the coming years (2026/27).

While fellow supermarket giant Lidl also revealed several locations in South Wales as possible sites for new stores, as part of its annual 'Site Requirements' report earlier this year.

Brands readers would like to see open new stores in South Wales

With so many major brands opening new stores in South Wales, we thought we'd ask readers which ones they'd like to see next.

Uniqlo was a popular answer, with several readers saying they would like to see the Global clothing retailer open a store in South Wales.

There are 23 Uniqlo stores in the UK (at the time of writing), including in Wimbledon, Manchester, Liverpool and Oxford, but none in Wales.

Having just opened a new store in Cardiff, residents in Cwmbran seemed keen for LEGO to come to them next, with several readers making the suggestion.

They also want to see M&S return after the store they did have, located on The Mall, closed late last month.

UK high street shops that no longer exist

Over in Blackwood, readers are keen to see the likes of Dunelm, The Range and Primark.

While another added: "Some new shops need to be put in Blackwood like a Disney store, Build-A-Bear, Entertainer."

This reader from the Valleys continued: "Woolworths back in the valleys, Cotton Traders, Roman, Klass clothes shops, Joe browns, and shops that sell just all chocolate."
