A family-run pie shop has celebrated winning a title at a prestigious national awards ceremony.
Hancox Pies, based in Bargoed, beat numerous contenders across Wales to clinch the 'Artisan Bakery of the Year' title at the 2025 Food Awards Wales.
The shop, which first opened during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, has gone from strength to strength.
It was previously named 'Retail Bakery of the Year' at the 2024 Food Awards Wales.
Owner Alexandre Hancox's success story began in Gilfach, Bargoed, but the shop quickly outgrew its original premises.
In December 2023, the shop moved to the Pontygwindy Industrial Estate, creating a seating space for 60 customers and numerous parking spaces.
The relocation has been a resounding success, with more than 5,731 pies and 5,594 pasties sold in the café alone.
The shop is now open seven days a week to cater to its growing customer base who travel from all over Wales, and even as far as Essex.
Hancox Pies, billed as a Portuguese-inspired pastry and pie shop, is renowned for its award-winning pies, pastries, and cakes.
Among its offerings are the authentic Pastéis de Nata, made from Mr Hancox's mother's 1975 recipe in his native Portugal.
The shop has garnered multiple accolades over its four-year journey, including the FSB Small Business Award in 2022, and Caterer of the Year at the Best of Welsh Business Awards 2023.
Mr Hancox took to social media to share the latest victory with his customers, stating: "Tonight we celebrated another award," alongside images of his team celebrating with their trophy.
The announcement was met with numerous congratulatory messages from loyal customers.
Over the years, Hancox Pies has continued to expand.
An extension was completed in May 2024, following the acquisition of an alcohol licence.
The shop's accomplishment is even more significant, considering the stiff competition at the 2025 Food Awards Wales.
The awards aim to honour the top culinary destinations across Wales, and recognise the hard work and efforts of establishments dedicated to providing fresh products and culinary delights.
