A yellow weather warning for rain has been issued for large parts of Wales, with heavy and persistent rainfall expected to cause surface water flooding and travel disruption.
The warning is in place from 5am to 11.59pm tomorrow, Thursday. The Met Office says rain will arrive from the south overnight into Thursday, becoming heavy and persistent in places during the morning.
After a brief lull for some areas, further organised and occasionally heavy rain is expected to move in again from the south later in the day, affecting the same regions.
Between 10mm and 20mm of rain is likely to fall widely by the end of Thursday, with some locations seeing more than 30mm. With ground conditions already saturated, the Met Office warns that surface water flooding is probable, particularly on roads.
Areas of Wales covered by the warning include Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Torfaen.
Drivers are being warned to expect difficult conditions, with spray, standing water and flooded roads likely to increase journey times. Bus and train services may also be affected, with delays possible throughout the day.
The Met Office says there is a chance of flooding to a small number of homes and businesses, as well as brief interruptions to power supplies and other services.
Residents are advised to check whether their property is at risk of flooding and consider preparing a flood plan and emergency kit if necessary. Motorists are urged to check road conditions before travelling, allow extra time for journeys, and amend travel plans where possible.
The Met Office also recommends staying up to date with the latest forecasts, as weather warnings can change quickly.
The yellow warning reflects a medium likelihood and low impact, but officials stress that localised disruption is still possible, particularly during heavier downpours.
