The Met Office has issued a warning over an incoming cold snap this weekend (Friday, February 14 to Sunday, February 16), with sleet and snow expected to arrive from Friday night (February 14) and continue into the weekend (February 15–16).
Parts of the Valleys, including Ebbw Vale, Brynmawr and Tredegar, are set to be affected.
For many of these areas, sleet is expected to begin at around 2pm today (Friday, February 14) and continue until approximately 5pm.
Conditions should briefly ease before turning wintry again, with light snowfall likely between 6pm and 9pm (Friday, February 14).
There is an 80% chance of rain, and temperatures could dip to around 1°C in some spots, before falling as low as -2°C overnight (Friday into Saturday, February 14–15).
Saturday (February 15) is expected to be dry and sunny for much of the day.
However, between around 10pm on Saturday (February 15) and 4am on Sunday (February 16), a mix of rain and snow — with further spells of sleet — is likely to move in.
More rain is then forecast later on Sunday evening (February 16).
The Met Office says: “A band of rain and sleet, with a little snow on hills, will clear southwards across England and Wales during Friday evening and overnight (February 14). As skies clear, temperatures will fall below freezing leading to a risk of ice forming on untreated surfaces.”
