Further roadworks are under way, bringing closures and travel disruption along a key route.
Newport City Council is party way through resurfacing programme affecting two more sections of Malpas Road, with work taking place this week at night and over two consecutive weekends in May.
A council spokesman said: "The scale of this work, and the necessary closures, will be disruptive, and we would like to thank residents and visitors for their patience and understanding while we carry out these improvements to our roads."
The first phase of resurfacing will take place along the southbound carriageway between the Pillmawr Road north junction and Llanover Close.
Closures were in effect from 8pm to 5am on May 5, and 6 and continue today, May 7, and 11.
During these times, the road will be closed overnight to all southbound traffic.
Residents in the affected area have been asked not to park on Malpas Road during the closure periods, as parked vehicles may be at risk of damage.
The council is issuing letters to residents with details of the works and specific access arrangements.
The second phase focuses on the stretch between the Harlequin roundabout and the M4 junction 26 roundabout.
This section will be closed to through traffic from 8pm on Friday, May 8, until 5am on Monday, May 11, and again from 8pm on Friday, May 15, until 5am on Monday, May 18.
The closure covers the area from just north of the Brynglas Road junction up to the M4 roundabout.
Pedestrian access to this area will be available at all times.
Vehicle access to Goodrich Crescent, Walford Street and the Brynglas area will be maintained via the Harlequin roundabout.
A temporary one-way system will be implemented on Walford Street and Goodrich Crescent for the duration of the works.
Residents in these areas have also been notified by letter regarding the resurfacing schedule and access routes.
Diversions will be clearly signposted throughout both phases of the project.
The council is advising all drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys during the resurfacing period.
Bus services operating along Malpas Road will also be affected.
The council has advised passengers to check with their bus operators for the latest information on service changes.
