People living close to where two people died in the early hours described disbelief at the events in their usually quiet community.
Two men died following an early morning collision on Aberthaw Road, with two people arrested on suspicion of murder.
"I can't believe this has happened on my doorstep," one woman told the Argus when we visited to the scene on Thursday lunchtime.
Another woman, who also asked not to be named, added: "We saw the police sirens last night but didn't know what was going on. It's really upsetting to hear someone's died."
Mr Norman, a local resident who did not wish to give their first name, said: "My heart goes out to the families of the boys at this difficult time."
Emergency services had been called to Aberthaw Road at around 1am on May 7.
Gwent Police confirmed the collision involved a BMW and a motorbike, with both the rider and pillion passenger of the motorbike pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
According to police, the BMW is believed to have left the scene before officers arrived.
Three people have since been arrested: two on suspicion of murder, and another on suspicion of assisting an offender.
All three remain in police custody at time of writing, while the investigation continues.
A large emergency response was mobilised after the crash and could still be seen in the Alway area throughout the day.
Police were carrying out door-to-door enquiries and are appealing for information.
At least four Criminal Investigation Department vans were present alongside two patrol cars as officers carried out further investigations on the estate, trying to build up evidence on what happened that claim the lives of people.
The nearby Always Community Centre had been cordoned off with police tape and closed to the public while officers continued their work, using the centre as a base of operations.

Officers have asked anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from between midnight and 1.40am on May 7 to come forward.
A Gwent Police spokesperson said: “Officers investigating the circumstances leading up to the collision would like to speak to anyone who was travelling along or residents who reside in Aberthaw Road and the surrounding areas to check their CCTV, between the hours of midnight – 1.40am on Thursday 7 May.”
Specially trained staff are supporting the families of the victims, who have not been formally identified at time of publication.
