Bishton Community Council has appointed a chair.
At the annual meeting on May 13, John Davies was unanimously elected as chairman.
The meeting was attended by councillors and the newly appointed clerk, Chris Ashman.
The chair thanked everyone for their hard work and dedication over the past year.
He also welcomed Mr Ashman and acknowledged the recent passing of former councillor Gillian Burton, who served for over 40 years.
The council's achievements over the past year were highlighted, including support for a new floor cleaning machine for Underwood Community Centre, repairs and refurbishment to Bishton park area, and a donation for a new clock at Llanmartin school.
The council also organised a successful best-kept garden evening at BVH and made a donation to the mayor's charity.
There was an excellent response to the carol service held by the Christmas tree, which was attended by Caldicot male voice choir.
The council also agreed on a donation for new planters at Bishton Village, a donation to Llanmartin Scout Group for uniforms, and new batteries and pads for Bishton defibrillator.
John Davies was nominated as chair by Carol Cork and seconded by Councillor Stokes.
There were no other nominations or objections.
Pam Davies nominated Andrew Cork as vice-chair, who was also unanimously appointed.
The minutes of the annual meeting were approved, and the standing orders and financial regulations were reviewed and adopted with no amendments.
The council's annual report was adopted, and it was agreed that there should be greater communication of council activity via social media, the website, and the local free press.
The council also appointed representatives for external bodies and councillors for internal committees.
Cherie Hall will chair the finance and procedure committee, with Rachael Stephens as vice-chair.
The council's insurance policy and inventory were confirmed, with the council fully insured and the insurers content with the asset register.
The internal audit is due to be undertaken in June, with completion for submission to WAO in early July.
