Up to £500,000 is being committed each year to support community-led projects in Newport.

The No-One Left Behind programme, backed by Newport City Council and aimed at tackling inequality, will now focus on the Bettws area after launching in Duffryn last year.

Councillor Dimitri Batrouni, leader of Newport City Council, said: "Tackling inequalities in our communities is very important to me.

"This £500,000 investment is a major boost for Bettws and demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that every community in Newport shares in the city’s progress."

The funding is designed to support under-served areas and will be shaped by public feedback.

Councillor Jason Hughes, cabinet member for communities and sport, said: "Following the Duffryn pilot, Bettws is now the focus of the No-One Left Behind fund.

"We have been clear from the start that the direction of funding has to come from the grassroots, from what the people in communities say is required to make a difference to their lives."

Residents are invited to attend a launch event at Bettws Community Centre on Thursday, June 18, from 11am to 2pm, to share their views.

Additional drop-in events will be held on Tuesday, June 23 (1pm to 5pm), Sunday, June 28 (2pm to 6pm), and Thursday, July 2 (9am to 4pm).

Feedback will guide the types of services or activities developed, with organisations eligible to apply for funding once the consultation is complete.

A similar consultation in Duffryn resulted in almost 50 funding applications for community services.

Projects funded included training programmes, volunteering opportunities, and environmental schemes.

Councillor Hughes said: "We are hoping that even more people in Bettws will get involved and give us their feedback so the right projects can be provided in the right places and at the right times."

An online survey is also available for those unable to attend in person.
