A NEWPORT business has been shut down again due to criminal activity taking place at the store.

Maindee Discount Store on Corporation Road has been closed for three months following an investigation by Newport council’s Trading Standards team.

An order was made at Newport Magistrates’ Court on June 10 under Section 80 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act to close the shop immediately for three months.

The business was also ordered to pay £526 in costs to Newport City Council.

The shop was previously closed by Gwent Police and Newport City Council in January last year for selling illegal vapes and counterfeit tobacco.

A Gwent Police spokesperson said: “Great partnership work by our Newport East neighbourhood policing team and Newport City Council Trading Standards Investigators to close another store in the Maindee area.

“This court order was granted under Section 80 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014 due to criminal and illegal activity taking place at this premises.

“This order will be in place for a three month period, until September 9, 2026.

“If you are concerned about any businesses operating illegally in your area please ensure it is reported to us and Newport City Council Trading Standards.”
