Children and families in Caerphilly are being invited to make the most of free outdoor fun this summer.

The 'Play in the Park' scheme is returning to Caerphilly county borough for its fifth year, offering activities and events in green spaces across the county during the school holidays.

The scheme is delivered in partnership between Caerphilly Play and the Early Years and Childcare Service.

Inspired by this year's National Play Day theme, "Play – here, there, everywhere!", the programme highlights the importance of play in every setting and encourages children to be active and enjoy the outdoors.

Councillor Carol Andrews, deputy leader and cabinet member for education, communities and transformation, said: "Play is a vital part of childhood, helping children develop confidence, creativity, communication skills and independence while having fun.

"We're proud to be celebrating the fifth summer of Play in the Park and providing opportunities for children and families to learn, explore and enjoy time together outdoors."

Sessions will take place on Friday, July 31, at Penallta Park, Monday, August 3, at Abercarn Welfare Ground, Wednesday, August 5, Morgan Jones Park,  Friday, August 7, at Rhymney (Eisteddfod Field), Tuesday, August 25, at Abertridwr Park, Wednesday, August 26, at Ystrad Mynach Park, and Thursday, August 27, at Blackwood Showfield.
