Celebrating young people and youth workers in Blaenau Gwent

Blaenau Gwent Youth Service hosted an awards ceremony during Youth Work Week 2026 to recognise the impact youth work has on individuals and the wider community.

Held at Llanhilleth Miners’ Institute, the event also saw the formal introduction of the new youth mayor, Daniil Narusberg, and deputy youth mayor, Phoebe Paton.

Councillor Sue Edmunds, cabinet member for children, young people and families, said: "What a truly uplifting night, which celebrated and highlighted the importance and value that youth work plays in supporting young people in our borough.

"We’re committed to supporting the learning and wellbeing of our young people and helping them to lead healthy, informed lives, and our fantastic Youth Service plays a major part in that.

"Congratulations and welcome to the new youth mayor and deputy youth mayor, I look forward to working with you throughout your mayoral year."

Both Daniil and Phoebe spoke about the significance of their new roles and shared their priorities for the year ahead.

The awards evening featured musical performances by young people and shone a spotlight on youth service projects which have made a real difference this year.

Winners included Peyton Grace-Tibbs (Community Champion), Tegan Roberts (Rising Star), Abi Phillips (Voice and Influence), Peyton Ayres (Leadership Award), Kira Brooks (Resilience Award), and Kyle Bowen (Creative Talent).

Youth worker awards were also presented to Lucy Hill (Outstanding Youth Worker 2024/25), Matthew Griffitths (Outstanding Youth Worker 2025/26), and Josh Bowen (Above and Beyond Youth Worker 2025/26).

The event also included a thank you to outgoing youth mayor Ellie Colwell and deputy Chase Campbell.
