Roads have been taped off and a large police presence remains in place following an incident in the early hours of the morning.
Heavy police activity continues in parts of Newport city centre, with Corporation Road closed at the junction with Chepstow Road, near the cenotaph. Officers, forensic teams and investigation units remain at the scene, with the road fully sealed off and cordons in place.
St Vincent Road, close to Rodney Parade, is also blocked off and police are preventing access to both streets.

Residents at the scene told reporters the emergency response began in the early hours.
Reports from people in the area suggest the incident began at around 2am, with one person said to have received CPR.
Police have not yet confirmed what happened, but have told the South Wales Argus that a further update will be issued shortly.
Much of Clarence Place has been blocked off.
A resident said officers have been there since "the early hours".
Fire crews have also been seen in the area supporting the operation, and a forensic tent has been erected on Corporation Road.
Images from the scene show forensic investigators in white suits working within the taped-off areas, while visibly upset members of the public have gathered nearby.
People have been turned away from St Vincent Road, and diversions are in place for drivers.
Anyone trying to enter the area has been stopped by officers manning the cordon.
Police have said a formal statement with more details on the incident will be issued shortly.
