A firefighter from Newport is travelling to the United States to take part in a memorial event.
Lloyd Williams, from Newport and a member of the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, will join a group of UK and Irish firefighters in Atlanta, Georgia, for the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on Saturday, September 5.
The event marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
It involves climbing 110 floors, the equivalent height of the World Trade Centre towers, in full firefighting gear.
Each participant will climb in memory of one of the 343 New York City firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
Firefighters will carry the name and photograph of a fallen FDNY firefighter during the climb.
Mr Williams has personally covered the cost of taking part in the trip, allowing money raised to go directly towards the charities.
The event raises money for organisations that support emergency service workers and their families.
Beneficiaries include The Fire Fighters Charity, the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund, and the Blue Light Card Foundation.
The climb will take place at Truist Park in Atlanta and will bring together firefighters from the UK, Ireland, the United States, and other countries.
Participants will unite in remembrance and service to honour those who lost their lives and to support their own communities through charitable giving.
