Crosskeys girl raises £900 for Together for Teddy campaign

Isla Evans-Rowe was inspired to take on the challenge after reading about Teddy Sloman, a three-year-old battling an aggressive cancer, on social media.

Isla walked 250 laps of Waunfawr Park and has so far raised £900, nearly four times her original target of £250.

She completed the challenge on Tuesday, September 1, with a 0.62km walk around the park, joined by family, friends and members of the community.

She said: "I enjoyed doing my daily laps around Waunfawr Park, especially when people from the community would come and join me."

Her mum, Sian Evans, said: "The community, friends and family came together and joined her one last time for her very last lap.

"Her target was to raise £250 but she’s actually hit £900 and still has money outstanding."

Teddy has been fighting neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer, for the last year.

His parents, Sarah and Kramer, said treatment that could help prevent the cancer from returning has been withdrawn in the UK.

In a statement, they said: "We're asking for your help to give him the very best chance of beating this for good.

"Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for anything you can give, and for sharing Teddy's story."

Teddy's treatment journey has included high-dose chemotherapy, surgery, proton beam therapy, and months in hospital.

His family and the community have raised more than £205,000 of the £250,000 needed to fund vital treatment abroad.

The funds will go toward maintenance therapy options in Rome or the US, which are now his only hope.

They added: "Every single pound raised will go towards Teddy's ongoing treatment, whatever that looks like, including any associated costs, giving him the very best possible chance of beating this for good."
