Declan Donnelly apologises after shoplifting from M&S store

The TV presenter, best known as one half of the presenting duo Ant and Dec, revealed the incident took place at Bridgewater Services following a visit to Cornwall.

Speaking on their podcast, Hanging Out with Ant and Dec, Donnelly said: "So we'll go in, pick our sandwiches, take it to the self-service checkout.

"So I start bleeping it – bleep, bleep, bleep.

"Put everything in the bag, bleep me Sparks card, and then I just walk off."

His co-host Ant McPartlin was quick to point out the error.

He said: "You didn't pay for it?!"

Donnelly replied: "I know.

"Put it all in me bag and wandered off."

He only realised the mistake as he started eating his sandwich.

Donnelly said: "As I tucked into me egg and maple bacon sandwich.

"With a mouthful of egg, I went, I haven't paid for this."

He tried to contact the services to apologise but was unable to get through and instead called his office.

Donnelly, speaking to the office, said: "I'm really sorry, I have just shoplifted from Bridgewater Services.

"My heart rate is slightly raised.

"I think I'm going to get arrested, because they know it was me."

Staff later contacted the service station, which asked Donnelly to donate to their chosen charity, Mind, which he did.
