A 14-YEAR-OLD boy and a 16-year-old girl have been arrested after a violent brawl erupted in Newport on Friday night.
Gwent Police were called to reports of an altercation on Upper Dock Street at around 10.30pm on Friday, September 11.
Upon arrival, officers spotted multiple people fighting in the area, however no serious injuries were reported.
Police have confirmed that a 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of assault by beating and violent disorder.
He has since been released under investigation.
A 16-year-old girl was later arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and has been released on conditional bail.
Multiple videos of the fight were shared on social media the following day.
In the videos, a group of around a dozen people can be seen engaging in a fight, with people pushing one another, throwing punches and falling to the floor in the chaos.
Some commenters called the incident “absolutely disgraceful”, “disrespectful”, and “disgusting”.
The incident took place as Gwent Police announced that 241 arrests had been made and three people had been jailed as part of Operation Krypton since it launched in July.
This operation is an intelligence-led partnership initiative that is focused on tackling crime and anti-social behaviour across Newport with the force’s partners, including Newport City Council and Hedyn, with a view to improve safety in the city centre.

Inspector Martyn Pugh said: "We understand that this incident, and the footage circulating on social media, may cause concern in the community.
"However, our officers, who were close by patrolling the city as part of the City Safe initiative, were on the scene within two minutes of receiving the report.
"We have made two arrests so far, and we are working closely with our partners to identify the other individuals involved".
Newport City Council confirmed that CCTV control room operatives notified Gwent Police that a fight was taking place, and they have since supplied officers with the footage to help with their enquiries.
A spokesperson for Newport City Council said: "The council’s CCTV control room operatives notified police of a fight taking place in Upper Dock Street on Friday night, to which police responded and made arrests.
"We have supplied the CCTV footage to the police to help them with their enquiries.
"While incidents like this are not pleasant, they involved a small minority of those visiting the city centre.
"The council, police and other partners will continue working together to ensure the small minority doesn’t ruin everyone else’s night out".
Anyone with information which could help officers with their investigation in to the incident is asked to contact Gwent Police, either by calling 101, online via the Gwent Police website, or via direct message on social media.
