Police have seized an electric vehicle and issued a warning letter as part of a crackdown on illegal off-road biking in Pontypool on Sunday, September 13.
The action was taken during Operation Harley, led by the Pontypool Neighbourhood Policing Team, to target anti-social and illegal use of off-road vehicles.
A number of off-road bikes were seen and recorded, with efforts ongoing to identify the riders.
Gwent Police also confirmed that an electric vehicle was also seized after it was seen being ridden on the public highway route to the mountain area.
A van believed to be used for transporting the vehicles was also identified, and a warning letter has been sent to the owner.
A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: "Pontypool Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted an Operation Harley to target the illegal and anti-social use of off road vehicles.
"A number of off road bikes were witnessed and recorded with ongoing attempts to identify the riders.
"One electric vehicle was seized after being witnessed riding on the public highway on route to the mountain area.
"One warning letter has been sent to the owner of a van believed to be used to transport vehicles to the area for illegal use".
Gwent Police confirmed that targeting the illegal and anti-social use of off-road vehicles is a priority for officers.
The spokesperson continued: "We are committed to tackling this priority issue which is reported to us continuously".
The patrols are part of protecting and reassuring the local community.
The spokesperson for Gwent Police previously explained: "Pontypool Neighbourhood policing team are continuing proactive patrols in our mountain and surrounding rural areas following reports of illegal off-road bike activity.
"We understand the significant impact that off-road bikes can have on local communities, wildlife, footpaths and legitimate countryside users.
"Our officers will be conducting high-visibility patrols, gathering intelligence and taking enforcement action where offences are identified".
Operation Harley is Gwent Police's ongoing initiative to tackle the illegal use of off-road vehicles across the force area.
Launched in 2020, the operation targets the unlawful use of motorcycles, quad bikes, mopeds and electric bikes that can cause anti-social behaviour, damage to the environment and danger to other road users and pedestrians.
The operation brings together neighbourhood officers, the rural crime team and partner agencies, with police regularly carrying out enforcement activity to seize vehicles being used illegally and identify those responsible.
