Eight-year-old Jonah Giles from Pontypool has won a competition to design a new children’s library card for Torfaen, beating more than 170 other entries.
His winning design features an owl reading a book alongside the words "eat sleep read repeat" and will now appear on all future cards given to children up to the age of 16.
Jonah, a pupil at George Street Primary School, said: "I like reading comics and borrowing them from the library.
"It feels amazing to win. I was really surprised."
He visited the library recently to collect his new card and a £50 book token.
His mum, Hayley Giles, said: "I'm really proud of him. The library is a fantastic resource and a lovely place for children and families to spend time together."
Councillor Peter Jones, Torfaen County Borough Council's executive member for corporate governance and performance, said: "We were delighted by the response to the competition and the standard of entries was exceptionally high.
"Jonah's design stood out for its creativity and will now be seen by children across Torfaen every time they visit their local library."
Torfaen Libraries offer free membership, thousands of books and digital resources, and a year-round programme of activities for children and families.
Children and young people under 16 can join the library for free by visiting any Torfaen Community Hub or library with a parent or guardian.
There’s still time for young readers to join in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.
