The Split-Up is a new legal drama starring the likes of Ritu Arya, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Aysha Kala that will be airing on the BBC soon.
It serves as a spin-off of The Split, which followed the Defoe family as they ran their family law firm while dealing with their own personal problems.
The Split-Up moves the proceedings from London to Manchester and follows Kishan Law, a British South Asian family law firm, known for its clientele and reputation.
A synopsis reads: "Poised to step up and take the mantle from her father Dhruv (Bhaskar), is Aria Kishan (Arya), a fast-rising star in the Manchester family law scene.
"But the death of her mother, Raina, six months prior, has cast a new light over these plans for Dhruv, who has begun to wonder if his daughter can, or should, take on this responsibility single-handedly.
"Aria’s fiancé, Neal (Danny Ashok), emerges as the steadier and safer option to lead alongside Aria, but with their professional and personal lives so intertwined, it’s unclear if their wedding will even go ahead."
Ursula Rani Sarma serves as writer, creator and executive producer on The Split-Up.
Discussing its links with The Split, she shared: "It felt really important to me that we created a family that the audience could fall in love with, the same way that they fell in love with the Defoes in The Split.
"There’s obviously the legal aspect too - the fact that this was also set in a law firm and that it dealt with family law and divorce - but ultimately, it was the tone that I felt was the most important thing to carry across."
Lead actress Ritu Arya described her character of Aria as "full of contradictions".
She added: "She's impulsive and reactionary and self-righteous and she's navigating losing her mum.
"There's a lot going on for her.
"She's trying to keep things steady, but I think the floor underneath her is shaking, and she deals with that by working hard and bringing lightness and humour and holding the family together."
