AROUND 60 pupils at a Welsh-medium school in Newport have taken part in filming for a programme, due to be screened on Christmas Day.

Ysgol Gymraeg Casnewydd’ Junior and Infants School on Hartridge Farm Road, was chosen to appear on ‘Cyw’, a children’s programme which features daily on S4C, in a nativity play filmed within the school grounds.

Deputy head teacher, Lorna Jones-Campbell said the children were thrilled to be chosen.

“Our year one pupils (aged 5-6) either sang Christmas Carols in the choir or had speaking parts in the scenes,” said Mrs Jones-Campbell.

“Filming took place earlier this month and the programme-makers brought a set and costumes, which they have kindly donated to us,” she added.

“Activities like this give the children the opportunity to blossom. They spent the day filming and spent a long time preparing for it.”

The programme can be seen on S4C over the Christmas period: Monday at 12.30pm and 1.30pm; Tuesday at 7am and 8am and 12.30pm and 1.30pm; Christmas Eve at 7am and 8am and 12.30pm and 1.30pm and Christmas Day at 7am and 8am.
