A VILLAGE Hall in Redwick has received a £15,000 People and Places lottery grant, which will go towards its restoration.

The lottery grant money will be used to employ an architect to prepare plans for the first stage of the hall’s restoration, which will eventually be handed over to council planning officers.

Research and questionnaires will then be carried out from people in the village and surrounding areas to ensure the development provides what is needed in a rural area.

The Redwick Village Hall Development Group, who secured the grant, are also hoping to get £300,000 as part of another main lottery grant which they have applied for.

The secretary of the group, Glynys Williams said: “We are thrilled to bits about this because it is such an important building for the area.”

The hall was originally build in 1949 and now needs urgent repair. Initial estimates are that the project will cost at least £350,000 to complete.

Committee member, Mair Duthie, said: “The hall is rapidly falling into disrepair and we need to move on with modern standards.

“We can use the building at the moment but it needs a new roof.”

The hall is used by toddler groups, dog shows, church activities, weddings and parties.
