TORFAEN council leader Bob Wellington has invited local residents to join him on a Boxing Day walk to a local historical monument.

Cllr Wellington, who is chair of the Cistercian Way Partnership is inviting the community to join him to walk for two miles along the Cistercian Way to the ancient site of St Derfel's Church.

The guided walk will be led by local historian, Richard Davies and will involve an uphill walk to the ancient site with views over the Eastern Valley, Monmouthshire, Newport and the Severn estuary.

Walkers can meet in the car park at Greenmeadow Community Farm which is the site of St Derfel's Chapel between 10.30am and 11am.

The farmhouse will be open for walkers to enjoy a festive glass of 'Boxing Day Punch' and a warm mince pie to start the walk.

The Cistercian Way Partnership brings together Greenmeadow Community Farm, local community leaders, Cwmbran Historical Society, Torfaen Museum Trust and Gwent and Glamorgan Archaeological Trust in a bid to reinstate the ancient Cistercian Way walking routes which pass through Torfaen.
