STAFF at a Newport gym and sports store raised more than £500 after having their legs waxed for a local charity.

The three men, who work at JJB/DW Sports, on the East Retail Park in Maesglas, Newport, had different parts of their body waxed on Friday, May 22, to raise sponsorship for the It's a Knockout competition organised by St David's Foundation.

Joel Davies had his chest waxed, Scott Lewis had his back waxed and Ed Bailey had his legs waxed, raising a total of £550 through sponsorship.

Simon Pope, who is a personal trainer at the gym, will have both of his legs waxed on Friday and has already raised £300 for the charity.

Ten people from the gym will be taking part in It's a Knockout on Sunday, June 7, at Newbridge Rugby Club.

This all-day event will see teams battle their way through games and challenges such as The Slippery Slope, Chicken Run, Walk the Plank, Soccer Shootout and Human Demolition.

Teams of all sizes and ages are welcome to join in on the fun.

An entry fee of £150 is required plus the commitment to raise £550 sponsorship to support the work of St David's Foundation Hospice Care.

Teams interested in taking part can call the charity's fundraising team on 01633 271 364.
