FUN runners of all ages will be be getting on their marks tomorrow evening for the Prince's Trust Cymru event, which is supported by the South Wales Argus.

All the participants at the Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, will be helping to raise money for the organisation which works with disadvantaged young people in the city and across Wales.

But school and registered youth groups will also be able to keep half of the sponsorship they raise for their own good causes.

Those taking part in the 5k run will receive goody bags and giveaways and have the chance to win prizes for fancy dress.

Champion athlete Jamie Baulch will be starting the event and presenting the prizes afterwards. A children's race will start at 6.45pm and they will be followed by the adults at 7pm along an off-road route taking in the scenery at the prestigious Newport resort.

The Prince's Trust was founded by Prince Charles in a bid to improve the lives of disadavantaged young people in the UK. In 2000, the organisational structure was changed and Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and each of the English regions had its own director and council.

Sponsorship money from tomorrow's event will go towards the work of the Trust in Wales. "Each year we support over 6,000 disadvantaged young people to help them reach their full potential," said a spokesman.

"We target our help towards educational under-achievers; those at risk of long-term unemployment; those in, and leaving, the statutory care system; offenders and ex-offenders."

In Newport, the team offers a number of programmes including a 12-week personal development programme for young people at risk of long term unemployment and mentoring for care leavers.

Entry for children under 14 costs £2 and adults £5, or family entry (two adults and two children), £10.
