Womad: July 29 - 31, Berkshire

Womad is all about bringing people together and celebrating cultural diversity.

Created out of the eighties, at a time when Britain was learning to revel in its differences and enjoy its many cultures, it was inspired by Peter Gabriel.

Having established itself in Britain between '82 and '88 Womad went on to branch out to other countries such as Denmark, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore and the Canary Islands.

Nonetheless, Britain is still the home of this amazing festival and each year thousands flock to spend a weekend enjoying the music, arts and dance that inspired Womad's name. This year's festival includes performances from some of the world's top musicians such Youssou N'Dour from Senegal, Jaojoby from Madagascar and Huun Huur Tu from Russia, as well as Western legends such as Richie Havens, Kiki Dee and Robert Plant.

V Festival: August 20 - 21, Chelmsford and Staffordshire

Richard Branson doesn't do things by halves, so when he decided that his company Virgin was to organise its own festival it was bound to be a hit.

V pioneered the two sites idea - giving you twice the opportunity to see some of the best acts on the planet and allowing you to pick south or north.

In the past great acts such as Blur, James Brown, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Pixies have joined in the fun.

In 2005 V have made the most of the hottest new acts from the last couple of years among them camp masters Scissor Sisters, pioneers of British garage art rock Franz Ferdinand, The Zutons, Joss Stone, The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Ian Brown and Dizzee Rascal.

Reading / Leeds Festival: Aug 26 - 28

For the real rock music fan Reading has always been the tops.

Over the years it has managed to attract some truly amazing acts including that legendary Nirvana appearance.

It has also managed to stretch to accommodate the changing music scene, bringing in Britpop acts, dance music or New York garage to balance the heavier stuff.

As time has gone by Reading has become such an incredibly popular event that the organisers have decided there's only one way to go - north.

This year the acts are just as good as ever - and include the likes of Marilyn Manson, Iron Maiden and Queens of the Stone Age for the hard rockers and The Pixies, The Foo Fighters and Kings of Leon for the rest.

Bestival , Isle of Wight Sept 9 - 11

As festival season rolls to a close don't forget to head out to the Isle of Wight for the big finale.

Bestival was created by the people behind Sunday Best - Rob da Bank, Giddy and the Loop Professor along with their many pals, among them Basement Jaxx and Andrew Weatherall, who saw a gap in the clubbing market for a new weekly event featuring the most diverse music around.

In its first year, 2004, Bestival was critically acclaimed by everyone who mattered, the UK Festival Awards nominated it for Best Small Festival and Best New Festival while Mixmag named it Best Event.

Plans for the second annual Bestival are well under way now, with a headline act confirmed in the shape of the fantastic Super Furry Animals as well as sets from Soulwax, 2 Many DJs, British Sea Power, Lee 'Scratch' Perry and Tom Vek.

Creamfields, Liverpool, Aug 27, 2005

The award winning Creamfields was created as the baby of the mother of all superclubs, Liverpool's Cream with the aim of bringing great dance music out in to the open air, instead of keeping it hidden away inside a sweaty club.

Creamfields has allowed fans to enjoy their favourite music in a whole new way, see DJs and MCs that normally they wouldn't get a chance to catch and all in one place, over one weekend. It has earned its reputation as the number one dance music festival.

This year Creamfields has answered the people by putting on acts handpicked by the fans themselves, among them Basement Jaxx, Fatboy Slim, Faithless, Roni Size, Pete Tong and Judge Jules

And as for the daddy of them all, Glastonbury, well, forget it. The only way of getting a ticket this year is to beg, steal or borrow .... good luck!
