NEWPORT Titans coach Dan Clements has warned his players not to take anything for granted when they take on Valley Cougars in the Total RL.com Welsh Conference at Sardis Road, Pontypridd, tomorrow.

The Titans are on the back of two defeats, to Aberavon Fighting Irish and Bridgend Blue Blues, and cannot afford any more slips if they are to challenge Aberavon for second spot.

Clements believes his side can get back on track against the fourth-placed side who have won twice this season.

"We have to go up there and give it 100 %," Clements said. "You never know what kind of side the Cougars are going to put out because they can have 50 players or just eight as coach Mark Jones has plenty of contacts, so we will have to be on our guard.

"But we have plenty of confidence going into the match. Last week was just a blip and we want to get back to winning ways."

He added: "It is going to be tough and very physical so we will have to be up for it but we have the determination and the experience to beat them."

Third-placed Titans will be without Owen Jones (injured) and Ben Morris (unavailable) for the clash that marks the halfway stage in the Welsh Conference and Clements has faith that his side can continue to improve in the run-in.

He can call on returning Wales players skipper Mark Wheeler, Earl Palmer and Tyrone Mahoney.

"We have made great improvements this year on last season and we are now a strong looking side who play entertaining rugby league," he said. "We still have to face Torfaen and Aberavon at home and will be looking to win those matches and also we have Bridgend away.

"They turned us over at our place but we were short of a lot of players and still think that we can do a job on them.

"They are the targets and we have to believe we can beat them."

Torfaen Tigers will be frustrated at having a free week after registering their first victory of the season last week, against the Cougars, and Clements wants a victory tomorrow to take into that clash.

"That is the big one, they are our big rivals and will be out to avenge our victory at their place earlier in the season," he said.

"But we need to keep our eye on this one because they can be dangerous."
