ELDERLY sisters Lassie and Lady need a loving home together following the death of their owner.

Staff at All Creatures Great and Small, near Cwmbran, are caring for the 13-year-old collie-crosses.

Diane Daniels, who works at the animal sanctuary, said: "They have always lived together and really need to be re-homed together."

She said the dogs were house-trained and excellent on the lead.

They have been at the sancturay since their owner died about five weeks ago. "It is more difficult to house older dogs and we would like them to stay together."

Meanwhile, despite an appeal for help in the Argus, dogs Sasha and Rosie, whose Newport owner died earlier this month, are still looking for a permanant home.

Pauline Morgan's dying wish, expressed to her good friend and Commercial Street neighbour Ros Evans, was that her beloved animals be found a home together.

Sasha, a black border collie, and Rosie, a black and white terrier, would surely "die of broken hearts" if they were separated, said Ros.

But All Creatures Great and Small animal sanctuary at Llanfrechfa is not hopeful of finding an owner for both.

Spokeswomen Annette Hale said: "They have been put on our waiting-list and the manager has explained to the lady that it could be two or three weeks.

"We are full - it is not the best time of year for rehoming because of holidays. They probably will not go together. Older dogs need more veterinary care and if you have to double that cost it is a lot to take on.

"If someone wanted one dog it would be difficult to spoil that dog's chance of a home if we had to say they had to go together."

Ros has been caring for them since her friend, 50, died of kidney failure, but does not have room or the money to keep Sasha and Rosie long-term.

Ros said lots of people had asked her about the dogs, having seen the story in the Argus, but nobody was prepared to take them.

Ros said: "I have got them here with me now because Pauline's flat has been locked up.

"All Creatures Great And Small have promised they will sort them out for me after that."
